Sometimes our skincare routines can feel more like a chore than a joyful experience. Instead of embracing the routine, I sometimes get the urge to rush and try to get my skincare routine over with, choosing not to embrace these beautiful, expensive products that I have spent so much time looking into online. Maybe that’s why we find so much happiness in finding and trying out new products – it’s something a little different than what we’re used to doing two or three times a day.
Well, when lockdown began, I decided to change my outlook when it came to skincare.
A Moment Of Reflection
Instead of rushing, I now embrace each product, appreciating the feeling of massaging the products into my skin, and enjoying the smells and feelings from using each one.
Now, I see my evening skincare regime as my daily treat. It’s more than just a routine – it’s a moment of reflection, a slow down, an act of self care on the evening, a time to think and enjoy the moment.
Embrace Each Product
As a lover of fragrance I have discovered that scents can trigger different feelings and reminders in my head. For example, when I smell my lavender essential oil I think “oh, it’s time to wind down” because I only ever use this scent at night.
The same thing goes for my skincare products too. I adore the smell of the Charlotte Tilbury cleansing ritual, the citrus scents also remind me that I’m going to be winding down and engaging in more skincare. It sets off my evening routine.
I also like to burn incense in the evening to make me feel relaxed.
It might sound strange to give yourself a facial massage, but if you’re like me you’ll really benefit from it. Many of us tend to hold a lot of tension in our jaws. And anxiety and stress can give us headaches which isn’t nice. There’s nothing worse than going to bed with a sore head! So, remedy this with a little facial massage.
I highly recommend the Revolution Jade Facial Roller, this is great for skin but also helps relieve the tension in my jaw and on my temples.
My Cruelty-Free Evening Skincare Routine
Here are the products I use during my evening skincare routine in order:
The Ordinary Hyaluronic Acid (vegan)
Glossier Priming Moisturiser (cruelty free)
A note on my skincare routine
I like to keep things as simple as possible when it comes to skincare. My morning skincare routine is no where near as extensive as it is in the evening. I switch my cleanser to the Vitamin C Cleansing Polish from The Body Shop, usually using this in the shower to speed up my morning routine (I am not a morning person!) I also skip using my facial roller and sometimes even my serum if my skin is already feeling quite hydrated. I like to make my mornings as easy as possible.
Many people ask me how I get my skin to be so clear. My skin is no where near perfect, but I think there are a couple of reasons why my skin is clear in general. For me, my vegan diet definitely has something to do with it. I used to get pimples until I switched to a dairy-free diet. I also drink lots of teas, eat plenty of fruit and detoxifying foods. Plus I try to drink as much water as I can throughout the day. I am a firm believer in cleaning your skin from the inside before you can expect to clear it from the outside – if that makes sense! But, when it comes to skincare, I believe that less is more and simple is better.
